Highlights - May 2006
Bar-tailed Godwit May 1st Eight Bar-tailed Godwits visited Otley Wetland, and later that day, possibly the same group were seen in the Bolton Abbey area.
Bar-tailed Godwit May 2nd Two more Bar-tailed Godwits were at the reserve on the following day and on the 7th a summer plumaged bird was seen.
Wood Warbler May 2nd Two Wood Warblers could be heard in Shipley Glen
Yellowhammer May 2nd A Yellowhammer had established territory by Crook Farm, Baildon
Twite May 3rd Fly Flats where 20 were noted
Twite May 3rd Leeshaw where a single bird was seen

Redstart May 4th Redstarts had returned to John o’ Gaunts

Yellow Wagtail May 7th Knotford Nook supplied us with the first recorded Yellow Wagtai
Garganey May 8th A male Garganey flew over Otley Wetland
Shelduck May 8th A bird flew over Otley Wetland
Turnstone May 8th A bird flew over Otley Wetland
Ruff May 12th A bird present at Otley Wetland
Osprey May 16th From the Watch-point at Barden, an Osprey was seen passing northwards
Sanderling May 20th Two birds at Otley Wetland
Osprey May 28th One passed Timble
Spotted Flycatcher May 30th Up to six Spotted Flycatchers were established in St. Ives by the end of the month
Common Tern May   Two were at Otley Wetland
Lesser Whitethroat May   At Toad Holes Beck a Lesser Whitethroat was in full song
Little Ringed Plover May   at Otley Wetland
Stonechat May   Reported from Glovershaw, Lower Barden and Whetstone Gate
Tawny Owl May   ‘mobbed ‘ by Magpies and Jays in broad daylight, in a Bingley Garden
Tree Pipit May   Tree Pipits were reported from Timble , John o’ Gaunts and St. Ives.
Wheatear May   By the 8th May Wheatear numbers, as reported to the website, had risen to 308 birds many seen at Trough Lane, Glovershaw and on Bingley Moor. 26 Wheatears were seen in one day at Trough Lane (3rd)
