SPOTTED FLYCATCHER Muscicapa striata.
Fairly uncommon migrant breeder/passage visitor.

First of the year was at Strid Woods on 1st May with another at Lindley Trout Farm two days later. There was a pleasing spread of records throughout the breeding season from sites such as St Ives, Dob Bridge and Kex Beck with breeding being confirmed at Beamsley, Denton, Paul Clough and Barden.

In the late summer and early autumn birds were seen at Royd Wood (four birds), Low Dam (three birds), Kex Gill Quarry and Beaverdyke Reservoir.

The last of the year was at Otley Gravel Pits on 15th September.

PIED FLYCATCHER Ficedula hypoleuca.
Common migrant breeder/ uncommon on passage.

The first was at Strid Woods on 14th April with 11 birds here by 29th April. Birds were seen feeding young here but regretfully no figures for breeding success were submitted. 12 young were ringed at Dob Park Wood with 13 young being ringed at Nell Bank. A nest in Middleton Woods contained seven young whilst breeding will almost certainly have taken place at Folly Hall Woods.
Birds were also noted at Drebley and Lindley Wood Reservoir with the final records of the year being two passage birds at Paul Clough on 28th July and a single there the following day.
