The Gallows Hill Reserve has direct access to the River Wharfe where Dipper, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, Goosander and Kingfisher are resident in spring and summer. This is one of the few places where Yellow Wagtail can be regularly seen during the breeding season. They are also seen during passage on the fields between Gallows Hill and Knotford Nook. Within the wooded area spring visitors include Common Whitethroat, Garden Warbler and Blackcap.

Notable Sighting - 2004
25th April 2004 Common Whitethroat which bred in this area.
May 2004 Three singing Garden Warblers
Notable Sighting - 2005
23rd April 2005 Common Whitethroat and two young birds seen on 19th August.
May 2005 Up to six Blackcaps, later in the season, juveniles and adults seen together.
