Kex Gill is on the site of a dis-used silica quarry, with scrapes and ponds. It's position high above the valleys makes it an excellent watch point for migrants. Many interesting waders and ducks have been recorded here and in 1997 Glossy Ibis were seen flying overhead.

Notable Sightings - 2003
7th March 2003 Three Ringed Plover with a pair staying to breed and raise one juvenile.
16th March 2003 A male Shelduck.
22nd March 2003 A pair of Shoveler.
22nd March 2003 A Kittiwake flying north.
30th March 2003 Three Dunlin.
March 2003 17 Oystercatchers.
March & April 2003 Six Redshank.
Early April 2003 Three Ring Ouzels
13th April 2003 A Jack Snipe
14th April 2003 First record of a Common Sandpiper, and three pairs later bred.
10th July 2003 A Greenshank.
13th July 2003 15 Oystercatchers
16th August and 17th October Single Ring Ouzels (the latter of which was caught and ringed).
4th September 2003 A Marsh Harrier.
17th October 2003 A Song Thrush of the race known as “continental Song Thrush” caught and ringed, a day of heavy thrush movement through the area.
October 2003 Four Blackbirds ringed showed characteristics of continental origins
