Notable Sightings - 2004
Winter 2004 Greater Scaup spent until 18th April
Winter 2004 Two Water Rail and at the year end.
15th February 2004 A pair of Shelduck with possibly the same birds being seen throughout April and into May.
21st February 2004 A Redshank arrived on breeding territory and had to wait until 7th March before it had company.

End of March 2004 Lapwing showing territorial behaviour and reported breeding occurred at Otley Wetland which had over 15 pairs.

2nd April 2004 Three Ring Ouzels on passage.
9th April 2004 Hobby, one the earliest ever recorded in the area and another bird was seen here on 19th July

17th and 18th April The Wetland hosted three Ruff, reducing to two on 20th and one the following day.
18th April 2004 A male Yellow Wagtail once a main site for these birds, it yielded only one bird all year, and this tends to confirm the gloomy picture painted by the fortunes of this species locally.
19th April 2004 White Stork
21st April 2004 The year's first two Sedge Warblers. This site then held various singing birds and a few breeding pairs, with 10 birds ringed between May and July.
21st April 2004 The first Garden Warbler with various further records coming from this site.

1st May 2004 Two Common Terns returned
2nd May 2004 A Single Whimbrel and on 6th and 9th, and with four on 12th.
Summer 2004 A pair of Common Terns reared two chicks, both of which were ringed.
Summer 2004 A singing Reed Warbler was seen in May and June in the purposely-created phragmites reedbed. Ringing studies at the same site in July yielded four adults and a juvenile.
August 2004 A Whinchat.
August 2004 A peak of 18 Wheatears on retun migration..
5th September 2004 Two females/immatures Pintails
9th September until 28th October A first-year female Ruddy Duck then spent two months at Otley Wetland, being joined by a second female for three days from 24th October.
15th September 2004 350 Canada Geese

October 2004 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker seen.
October 2004 25 Blackbirds passed through.
9th October 2004 A first winter Black Tern
13th October 2004 Eight female/first winter Shovelers
21st October 2004 A Ring Ouzel, the year's final sighting.

November 2004 A Barnacle Goose was seen throughout the month.
2nd November 2004 nine Whooper Swans
December 2004 15 Grey Partridge. Breeding occurred here with seven young noted.
5th December 2004 800 Wood Pigeon passed through.

30th December, about 10 Redwing in a total flock of 60 showed characteristics of the Icelandic race T.i.coburni
