Notable Sightings - 2003
1st January 2003 A 1st winter male and a female Shoveler. The female lingered until the next day and was possibly still there when one was seen on 31st January.
1st January 2003 A Grey Plover
1st January 2003 70 Coot
2nd January 2003 A male Shelduck.There were regular sightings at this site until 7th June with the maximum of 3 being seen on 27th February. On 7th June an adult was seen with a juvenile but not seen subsequently.
3rd January 2003 37 Pink-footed Geese flew over.
12th January 2003 The roost of Black-headed Gulls contained 2500 on 12th January, 3000 on 31st January and 4000 by 27th February. Lower numbers were reported during the summer months with 800 there on 20th July. Only 360 were roosting on the 1st November but numbers had built to 2000 by early December.
24th January 2003 An adult Mediterranean Gull.
January 2003 1500 Common Gulls roosted. There were 2000 in February and 1000 in November..
January 2003 400 Curlew.
January 2003 200 Redwing.

9th March 2003 50 Oystercatchers with a peak of 70 on 6th May.

13th April 2003 First returning Common Tern, From this date up to five birds were regularly seen here with three breeding attempts being made, all of which were unsuccessful.
1st May 2003 100 Swifts.
1st June 2003 Yellow Wagtail.
15th June 2003 The first female Gadwall of the year. two males at the same site accompanied a female on 21st September.
15th June 2003 A Black-tailed Godwit.
17th June 2003 16 Oystercatchers
June 2003 Little Ringed Plover (passage)
6th August 2003 A Hobby.
12th August 2003 A Greenshank.
26th August 2003 An Osprey.
15th September 2003 Last recorded Spotted Flycatcher.
2nd October 2003 The first returning Redwing.

13th November 2003 and 19th December 16 Pochard.
21st November 2003 A long staying female Scaup arrived remained until the year-end, incorporating a visit to Knotford Nook on 14th December before returning.
