The Reservoir Reserve is one of the key watch sites in our area. Access is limited to B.O.G. members only and keys are available to all members. There is a hide, a small car park and a log book is maintained on the site.

Notable Sightings 2003
27th February 2003 An adult Mediterranean Gull.
Lesser Black-backed Gulls - 40 in February and 94 in March, these birds moved between here Cullingworth and Flappit Springs. The late summer congregation peaked at 750 on 14th June with numbers dwindling to 249 on 19th July, 52 on 18th September and only nine by 19th October.
March & April 2003 Ten Redshank.
23rd April 2003 A female Shelduck was seen.
27th April 2003 A Common Tern.
28th April 2003 A male Hen Harrier.
14th June to 4th August 2003 Single Yellow-legged Gulls noted on six dates during the summer.
16th June 2003 A Dunlin.
19th June 2003 Six male Common Scoters.
26th June 2003 Cuckoo heard for the final time in this area.
August 2003 A Yellow Wagtail
August 2003 108 House Martins.
August 2003 A Garden Warbler on passage.
5th August 2003 A single Whimbrel.
10th August 2003 A Greenshank.
24th August 2003 Five Dunlin
25th August 2003 120 Goldfinch


 

 

 

September 2003 A count of 62 Greenfinch.
14th September 2003 The last recorded Tree Pipit.
20th September 2003 203 Chaffinch and 252 the next day.
20th September 2003 3546 Meadow Pipits counted on migration.
21st September 2003 49 Pink-footed Geese headed east with a Whooper Swan. Another 24 were seen seven days later at the same site also heading east. An influx was noted early in October on the 4th with 74 over Thornton Moor. The following day another 102 were seen from here.
21st September 2003 Two Sanderling were on the shoreline of the reservoir.
27th September 2003 A Greenshank.
28th September 2003 108 Mistle Thrush going west and 75 here a week earlier.
12th October 2003 312 Redwings
12th October 2003 The last House Martin of the year.
18th October 2003 609 Fieldfares with 643 the following day.
21st October 2003 A female Scaup not only stayed in the area until 30th November, but also managed to do a tour of the reservoirs close to Oxenhope. It spent some time on Leeming reservoir and Fly Flatts where it was last seen.
October 2003 304 Golden Plover
October 2003 Two Dunlin one being seen as late as 4th November.
19th November 2003 38 Herring Gulls.
27th November 2003 A second winter Mediterranean Gull.
November 2003 535 Lapwings.
