Notable Sightings - 2003

January 2003 Up to three Water Rails observed and an individual in March.

18th April to 2nd August 2003 A “reeling” Grasshopper Warbler was heard. Two birds were present on five dates, the last being as late as 28th July. A possible juvenile was seen on 29th June.

13th September 2003 Two Water Rails were regular until December.

21st September 2003 Final Sighting of Garden Warbler.

Notable Sightings - 2004

May 2004 Two Garden Warblers

24th May 2004 Two Sedge Warblers

June and July 2004 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker seen carrying food.

29th August 2004 The last sighting of Sedge Warbler where two birds had been regularly seen during the summer.

7th November 2004 Three Whooper Swans flew over.

November 2004 Up to three Water Rails were present in the latter months. Views at this site are often very close, as the birds feed out in the open directly in front of the hide.

Notable Sightings - 2005

January 2005 A Chiffchaff.

23rd January 2005 the year’s highest count of 24 Reed Buntings was made when birds were watched leaving their roost.

1st May 2005 Singing Grasshopper Warbler.

5th June, 24th July and 27th August Lesser Spotted Woodpecker seen.

Sedge Warblers - Records of confirmed breeding, final date was 4th September.

June 2005 Blackcaps seen carrying food

19th June 2005 Garden Warbler seen carrying food.

17th July 2005 Juvenile Whitethroat seen.

5th October 2005 Two Water Rail were seen with three by the month-end, and one was seen or heard irregularly to the end of the year.

9th December 2005 A Green Sandpiper flew past.
