Who
can contribute and from where.
These pages are intended for local consumption, but please everyone participate.
The more feedback the better. If you can add any vis sightings or general
/ specific information from elsewhere, which will help us to better understand
or compare how our birds are moving and from whence they are coming /
going and the like, then please do so. This information can be added as
comments appended to the appropriate day reports, from any location (Bradford
or elsewhere). Anything to improve understanding will be greatly appreciated
and this type of info will be very, very welcome!!
As an experiment and
as a means of access to these VISIBLE MIGRATION pages for persons wishing
to contribute in any way to our VISIBLE MIGRATION knowledge. I intend
to set up a MONTHLY OPEN POST, to which those interested in contributing
can as "comments" post and add their visible migration comments,
questions, background information and the like. In fact again, anything
likely to be of interest to the vis watcher can be included. The opportunity
to improve communication locally (or even wider) on this subject is exciting
and just too good to miss! These pages are primarily relative to the Bradford
Ornithological Group (and surrounding) area but as Visible Migration is
Nation wide and beyond, any other background from elsewhere is of great
interest to us here in our own small world of Bradford.
Please remember to
include your name, date, location, time, species, flight directions, contact
details (if you want a reply) and the like. Anonymous postings may not
be uploaded / accepted and may not even be recognised by our systems.
Please also keep to topic "Visible Migration".
What
the Visible Migration Pages will contain and how to Contribute.
Anyone counting bird migration in the Bradford Ornithological Group area
or nearby and wishing to have their reports included on these report pages
should mail them to me (Dave Barker) direct or preferably via any of the
existing reporting systems currently in use or for this website, with
a clear note confirming authorisation to include on these local Group
pages. Specific counts of "vis" species, presence or occurrences
/ activity irrespective of whether complete reports or not can also be
included as in fact can anything of interest to the "vis" watcher.
Negative and minimal reports are just as important as those on “big
days”. I will then upload to do a daily - or more frequent update
often when I receive the info, very much in the fashion that we have become
to expect. Anyone needing mailing instructions should get them from me
at one of the monthly Group meetings. It is also possible to provide information
as a “Comment” to the appropriate mail on the Visible Migration
sightings page. I can then pick it up from there and post it properly,
or leave it as a “comment” to the day report as appropriate.
It is recognised that the, at least daily availability (when this is possible
and fieldworkers available) of the visible migration appraisal and advice
is essential, as the ever changing data soon gets past its sell by date
and becomes of limited interest as the birds move on. All contributions
should be in simple text.
